Toss It Before You Move

There’s an old adage about not taking old items into a new home. While major pieces of furniture can be excused from this adage, general clutter should not be. When moving from one place to another, determine what your need and what you can discard before you even begin packing by following these cardinal rules.

You can likely discard the item if it

• Has visible dust on it. This is sure fire way of knowing that you have not touched the item or even thought about the item. Even books and shelves tend to get dusted frequently, so something that has a layer of dust on it has been lurking in a corner.
• Hasn’t been touched in more than a year. Like the first reason, you will likely not have thought about it either. Even if it’s not quite ready for the scrap heap, you can consider donating it.
• Is heavily damaged. Perhaps it is that old futon from your senior year of college that won’t stay folded. Or it might be a lamp that no longer works. If it has sentimental value, take a picture with the object and then get rid of it.

Once you’ve rid yourself of unnecessary clutter, it will be much easier to pack the rest of your items. And when you’re all packed, you can contact these long distance movers in Poway.
